ABSTRACT

The Compendium is a web-based and permanently updated information and monitoring system of national cultural policies in Europe.

It allows users to compare policy issues in 39 countries. Every year, new country profiles are added. Eventually the Compendium aims to include all 48 countries adhering to the European Cultural Convention.

The country profiles address current challenges to cultural policies and decision makers across Europe such as:

  • The role of new actors in a changing system of governance
  • Cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue, and social cohesion
  • Support to creativity
  • Participation in cultural life
  • Economic, legal, and educational dimensions of cultural policies.

The Compendium originates from the Council of Europe's Programme of National Cultural Policy Reviews. It was initiated by the Council of Europe Cultural Committee and Secretariat and has been carried out in partnership with the ERICarts-Institute since 1998.
